Get to Know Dr. Duong
Dr. Toan “Tommy” Duong grew up in Northern Virginia, about 15 minutes outside of Washington DC. He completed most of his education in Virginia and even attended Virginia Tech, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry. Dr. Duong knew he wanted to work in a career that would help patients and found himself intrigued by professions in both pharmacy and dentistry. However, having two uncles who practice dentistry tipped the scales for Dr. Duong and he never looked back.
Once his career trajectory was decided, Dr. Duong attended Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry and graduated in 2016. From there, he completed a one year residency at UNC in a general practice residency program. Dr. Duong stayed in Chapel Hill for two more years after his residency as an adjunct faculty member and a hospital dentist at UNC Health.
Dr. Duong knew that he would eventually return to Virginia to lay down roots, which is where he finds himself now. He was happy to move to Charlottesville in 2019, and is honored and grateful to serve his community with quality dental care. Dr. Duong enjoys the one-on-one interaction he gets to have with his patients and feels rewarded by making a positive difference in their lives.
Outside of the office, Dr. Duong is an avid sports fan, especially DC sports. He also enjoys playing pickleball and partakes in Muay Thai to stay fit. Dr. Duong loves spending quality time with family and friends as much as possible. He is also a huge music lover and enjoys going to concerts and seeing live performances. Dr. Duong loves traveling throughout the US as well as internationally. In fact, one day he hopes to see every US state! Recently, Dr. Duong purchased a smoker, so if he’s not in the office, you can likely find him outback, cooking BBQ!

Kimberly
Front Desk
Kimberly has been in dentistry for over 19 years. She takes pride in helping our patients, whether it’s with insurance issues, questions with treatment plans or just being a friendly face when you walk through the door. In her free time you will find her at the beach with her husband James and dog, Ginger.
Tonya
Dental Hygienist
Tonya is a Registered Dental Hygienist at our office. Tonya has been working in dentistry for over 15 years. Tonya enjoys getting to know her patients and cares about helping them with their oral hygiene needs. When not working, Tonya loves spending time with her three children. She enjoys the outdoors, either hiking or visiting local restaurants and wineries.
Daisa
Dental Assistant
Dasia was led to join the dental industry by her mother, who has served as a dental assistant for many years. She ensures that our patients feel comfortable throughout their entire treatment process and is able to answer any questions they may have about their procedure. When not at the office, Dasia has a two pitbulls that she spends most of her time with.

What to Expect at Your First Visit
When you come to see us for the first time, we will be focused on getting to know you and how we can best accommodate your oral health needs and smile goals. Whether you’re coming to us for a simple checkup or a major concern, there’s no need to feel nervous for your first visit. We’ll never put any pressure on you to proceed with a treatment – you’re in the driver’s seat here at Rivanna Dental Care!
Upon your arrival, you’ll be greeted by a member of our team. If you’ve already completed your new patient paperwork, they’ll show you around to familiarize you with our office before showing you back to your chair. Next, our hygienist will clean your teeth before Dr. Duong comes to meet you. He will examine your teeth and gums and work with you on developing a treatment plan that addresses any issues he may have found. From there, you’ll be given time and space to decide how you would like to proceed. If no issues are found, we will simply see you back in six months for your next cleaning!
